Obviously, I have to talk about Allison getting voted off last night on Idol. But, there are more important, creepy things to talk about after I give my useless opinion.
You know, I am really bummed about Allison being booted off last night. She was always consistent with her performances. But, as it has been pointed out 422 times, she is only 17!!! She has a great future ahead of her. I know she will be successful in her music career.
Let's talk about the hideous group sing. Slash play geet-ar while the gang screeched their way through "School's Out" by Alice Cooper. Here's what really affected me. Danny Gokey trying to throw in a rhythm riff in this great classic rock song. It made me not only wince, but it made me kind of pissed.
You saw the backstage clips where the contestants give brief thoughts on how they did after their performance. Danny Gokey said "rock's just not my genre". Well, so!!!!!!!!! Is every category Adam's genre??? NO! He just knows how to make every situation and every theme work for him. Danny just doesn't have that skill. I do give him props for making fun of himself with that horrible note he tried to hit the other night.
What I reallllly want to talk about is Paula Abdul's routine. Holy crap. I was confused, embarrassed, scared, and quite taken aback. I felt like she was trying to be Britney. Obviously, she lip synched the song. Then she had the digital effects on her voice..."The Cher Effect" is what I call it. If you have to enhance your voice with fake effects the entire song, I would say just dont bother, you know? The routine was just crazy. I am going to post it so you can watch it for yourself...over and over again. I do have to say, Paula is in really good shape. I'll give her that.

Thoughts on Idol last night
It was American Idol first. Duet night! I was kind of worried when this was announced because there are 3 guys and one girl. You do the math. SOMEBODY was going to have to sing a duet with SOMEONE of the same sex!
First, Adam came out and set the stage for the evening. He did "Whole Lotta Love" by Led Zeppelin and he just did a freaking amazing job. To my surprise, the judges gushed over his performance and all of them agreed that no one was going to be able to top what he just did on stage. They were right.
Danny and Kris came out and did a duet with "Renegade" by Styx. Eww. It really was just hideous. Now, I am going to bring this up and I need to know if anyone else noticed. It really seemed to me like Danny and Kris were really upset about something. I couldn't place what was going on. Even when they were performing, they looked really pissed off. I would really like to know what was going on behind the scenes.
Next up Allison. You know, she did a pretty good with Janis Joplin's "Cry Baby". She has a great raspy lower register, but in parts she just screamed. She looked really good. I am really glad she got her hair done. She even announced that she used Adam's stylist of two years. Her hair was kind of looking dry and straw-ish.
Kris was next and he did a very boring rendition of "Come Together" by the Beatles. It was so vanilla and non-expressive, I thought there was a can on sardines up there singing. He was obviously uncomfortable, unhappy, and many other "un" words. Not impressive. I was left wishing Lil Rounds was back.
Oh boy. Danny Gokey. He decided that he would like to hack Aerosmith's version of "Dream On". From the first note, I knew he was in trouble. It was just not good. And it was ROCK night, why in the world was he wearing a pin stripe suit for and Aerosmith song???? I felt really disconnected with Danny last night. Again, he seemed really pissed about something.
Finally, Adam and Allison finished up with a duet of "Slow Ride" by Foghat. They tore that sh** up. I mean parts of it were kind of hokey, but they really did have chemistry and looked like they were having a great time.
This is a tough call for me. Going home tonight.....
My prediction is ....
Kris.

Tonight....On American Idol
The theme will be.....
Rock week. My predictions:
The judges will compliment everyone even if they suck becuase they are trying to hide their bias towards Adam. They will tell Adam "it wasnt his best performance" or that "they weren't feeling it". I think we will have an all male bottom three.

Back with the recap!
First off, I apologize for not recapping last week. I screwed my back up and couldn't muster up enough "butchness" to sit up and write a blog. I am much better now and am ready to get to action.
So, last night was "Rat Pack Standards" night.
I am once again in complete dismay at who they have "mentoring" the kids. Jamie Foxx? Seriously? Are they going to have Jim Carey next week? I understand Jamie did a fine job as Ray Charles, but that makes him no expert on giving advice to contestants whose fate is based on their singing passion and his advice. You have to think that they all talk behind the scenes about it.
Kris Allen took the stage first and he did "The Way You Look Tonight". I admit when Jamie said "Kris wasn't a contestant that did throat olympics" I let my head go to a place that it probably should not have. I was not really impressed with his performance...matter of fact, I imagined myself at an empty airport at 1:00am looking for a bloody mary and Kris playing his last song of the night with a tip jar 1/4 filled with ones. I was disturbed when Simon said his performance was "wet". WTF??
Allison was next. She did "Someone to Watch Over Me". Allison celebrated her 17th birthday on Monday, so it's hard for me to critique her like I would everyone else. I was kind of phasing in and out of conciousness when she performed, but I will say she did better than Kris. Her personality is starting to show and grow on me.
Matt Giraud really disappointed me with his rendition of "My Funny Valentine". I expected he would do so good because of his background with Jazz. I also think he was looking forward to this week because he gets to wear a hat that would be appropriate for his performance. Is it me or did his ears look really huge with that hat? I dont know, Matt may be in trouble. His song just drug by last night.
Danny Gokey did "Come Rain or Shine". Was anyone else disturbed with Jamie Foxx's invasion of personal space as he was giving Danny advice. It was very strange. Anyhoo. Danny did a decent job in my opinion. I really like his raspy, smokey notes. That's where his strength is.
And, finally. Adam Lambert. Holy shit. This guy is just unbelievable. He did such a sexy versioni of "Feeling Good". From the moment he came down the stairs, I got chills. I try not to get chills because I don't want to be biased. But, again, Adam owned his performance and owned the stage. Randy was right when he said that Adam was there to win and every week he proves it over and over. That awesome note that he hit last night still resounds in my head.
My prediction tonight:
Bottom 3 Matt, Allison, Kris
Going home: Matt

The Theme this week.
I can't even begin to tell you how excited I am about this week's them on American Idol. In my opinion, this is going to make or break some of the contestants. This theme has the potential to even save once or two of the singers, and has the wherewithal to cement Adam's lead in this competition.
Ladies and Gentlemen, the them for American Idol tomorrow night will be:

What's wrong with the "save"??? I'll tell you what's wrong...
Before I get on my high horse, was I the only one who was in utter disbelief when Miley Cyrus opened her mouth to sing? I have heard all about Miley/Hannah Montana for a couple of years and have admittedly never hear her sing. WTF????
I thought she was playing for a second. Oh, and the way she roughed her hair up at the end of the song...my god, the performance was full of cheese...and yes SHIT! My advice to Miley is to quit hanging around her father, and invest in some:
Ok...onto Idol...
Matt was voted out by America. That's what we do, right? What the show is about, yes? America votes and votes, and whatever the results, so be it, good bye. Not so with this new "save" that the judges have. It essentially takes away from what the whole concept of the show is. The judges pretty much slap us in the face and tell the teenage girls that the 8 hours they spent dialing and hitting redial, and installing software on the computer that dials the number every .99999999 megasecond...is worthless. I think it stinks.
Remember, Chris Daughtry got the boot early. Jennifer Hudson did too. It's part of the show and I dont like the dictatorship vibe that the "save" has.
Next week two contestants will get booted off.
BTW...Jennifer Hudson did a great job last night.
BTW part 2: Maniac for the group sing???? Seriously?

The Songs,The "New" Format, and The Weirdo
As I told you, last nights performances would be revolved around movie soundtracks. I knew this theme was going to be a flop. I was sleepy.
Last week, the judges couldn't keep within the time constraints of the show and it ran 8 minutes over and therefore, those who DVR'ed Idol didn't get to see Adam's performance, causing a backlash of fan frenzy. So, the new rule was only two judges got to critique the performers, and they STILL managed to go over time by 3 minutes.
Quentin Tarintino...a mentor? Really???? Sure, he's a great director of movies, but he just gave me the heebie jeebies last night.
Let's start the sleep fest, shall we?
First was Allison. She did one of my most least favorite songs from Aerosmith...I Don't Wanna Miss a Thing. Unfortunately, I wish I would have missed the entire show, but she's good and she did better than most of the folks in the show this week. 16 years old and manages to keep herself grounded. That's more than I can say for myself now!
Anoop took the stage and did Bryan Adams...Everything I do, I do for You. He did fine. Better than I thought he would. My personal issue is the song. This is the song with which I equate Bryan Adams becoming AC, also knows as, Easy Listening. Blech. No points from me. But I do enjoy the pic of Anoop with the balloons. He looks quite gay.
Next up was Adam. He was the only one who did an upbeat song, and while his performance was no "Mad World" from last week, it was the best from from this week. And BTW...the judges have been getting all kinds of flack for being so vocal about supporting Adam, I couldn't help but notice that the bus was trying to be re-steered by Simon. I dont know what the big deal is...its not like it's a big secret that Adam is more talented than the rest of the crew. He's still the one to beat, like it or not. Oh, and my little 2 year old daughter indicted that she liked his shoes and wanted to hug them.
Danny Gokey did Endless Love by Lionel Ritchie. I used to be a pretty big supporter of Gokey...but he's slowly slipping off my radar. The version was so middle of the road and predictable. He didnt wear any glasses this week. I give him kudos for that, since everyone was talking about his glasses and not his singing...now what will they talk about??? I also agreed with QT that Danny needs to quit doing that thing with his hands. Like a rappy/gangsta thing.
Kris did a song I dont know, and honestly, I needed some Frito's and that was the perfect time for me to head upstairs and grab those and some conqueso. Kris is cute, I'll give all the boys and girls that...but he's not flipplin' my lid vocally. His t-shirts are cool, though. Oh, and he does wear his pants extra tight, which takes the guess work out of wondering what religion he is.
Lil did "The Rose" and I was wondering WTF is she thinking??!!! The Rose by Bette Midler??? Sorry, the judges have been telling her how she is picking the wrong songs...at least she is consistant in that. I wa amazed at how fast she can grow her hair!!! I also think that her mic looked more like a phallic symbol than anyone else's did. She told Simon that she added Gospel to the song and I didn't hear it. I heard a splash of desperation, though. Finally, Matt ruined another Bryan Adams song. "Have you ever really loved a woman". It wasnt good at all.
Preditions...Lil Goes home tonight.
